Project brief

We were tasked with fixing this boggy garden.

This project gave us great satisfaction once complete!

From the first site visit, we noticed how boggy the grass was, therefore we new the customer had drainage issues.

36 tonnes later, we finally cleared out most of the clay that was holding the water. We then installed a soakaway in the middle of the garden to allow the water to drain away freely.

With bad weather conditions, It took us just under 4 weeks to complete this project, but we and the customers are over the moon with the final result!

patio drainage
a boggy one - fixed
The “Boggy One!” project came about when the homeowners noticed persistently soggy lawn surfaces after rain, making parts of the garden virtually unusable. They asked us to fully resolve the drainage issues while giving them an attractive and low-maintenance outdoor space.

After surveying the site, our first task was to remove large amounts of clay soil that was holding water and preventing drainage. We brought in heavy machinery over several days to extract and replace the problematic substrata. To ensure surface water no longer pooled, we installed a soakaway in the garden’s centre which efficiently channels excess water below ground.

With the drainage sorted, we turned attention to the aesthetic and functional transformations. We laid Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone paving which gives a clean natural appearance and suits the existing surroundings. To contrast, we spread 20 mm Black Ice gravel in designated areas, adding dark tones and texture. We used Basalt resin grout between paving joints, chosen for its durability and visual discreetness.

In place of natural turf we installed 32 mm Majestic artificial grass, which maintains a lush, green look year-round without the high maintenance or risk of turning muddy. Along one boundary we erected feather edge fencing to create a neat, traditional finish and offer privacy. The combined result is a garden that’s both much more usable during all seasons and visually pleasing, with strong contrasts between the stone, gravel and green areas, and lasting construction.

Project summary…

This project transformed a waterlogged backyard in Bingham into a dry, usable, and beautiful garden space. Blocking up the drainage problem involved removing clay, installing a central soakaway, laying Kandla Grey Indian Sandstone, offset by Black Ice gravel and Basalt resin grout. The replacement of turf with 32 mm Majestic artificial grass plus feather edge fencing gives a clean, durable, low-maintenance garden the clients can enjoy in any weather.
